Players from the Baltimore Kids Chess League (BKCL) posted great results at the Maryland Girls Chess Championships, held during a snowstorm on Saturday at the Roland Park Country School. In the Novice division, BKCL players earned four of the top 10 trophies; in the Reserve division, BKCL players won two top 10 trophies; and in the Championship division, Desire Thomas, an 8th grader at Pimlico Elementary/Middle School, tied for third, which is the highest result ever achieved by a Baltimore City Public Schools female player in the championship division.

In the middle school team standings, Pimlico Elementary/Middle School took the championship trophy, edging Cross Country Elementary/Middle School (and with Cockeysville Middle School of Baltimore County taking third). In the elementary team standings, Baltimore Montesorri Charter School finished second behind host Roland Park Country School, with Stoneleigh Elementary from Baltimore County in third.

Congratulations to Pimlico Coach Lee Rutledge and Principal Elneeta Jones !

The girls will join their male teammates for the 2010 Maryland Scholastic Chess Championships on March 20-21 in Hagerstown.
